Take Me Out to the [Detroit Tigers] Ballgame...

Detroiters love their major league baseball team, the Detroit Tigers, and my mother [who will be 91 years old in October] is no exception.  She had never been to  a  game at Comerica Park [which opened in April 2000], but she always watches their televised games, and is knowledgeable about the team's players.
Last Wednesday [Aug. 22], my son, Steve,  got tickets to take her, my hubby, and me to the Detroit Tigers vs. Toronto Blue Jays game.  We had a such a good time, that I just had to blog about it.

Below is Steve in his Detroit Tiger shirt, and my mom in hers [which Steve provided].  We arrived before the fans started filling in the seats.

A beautiful ballpark, on a beautiful night, with fantastic seats, and the Tigers won!

We welcomed the 7th inning s-t-r-e-t-c-h and sang along with everyone else, "Take me out to the ball game, take me out with the crowd.  Buy me a glass of refreshing iced tea some peanuts and cracker jacks, I don't care if I never get back. Let me root, root, root for the home team, if they don't win it's a shame.  For it's one, two, three strikes, you're out, at the old ball game."    That song has been around since 1908.  That's a lot of singin' at a lot of 7th inning stretches!

Can you believe none of the concession stands at the stadium sells tea - iced or hot, sweetened or unsweetened, and none of the team's players are known to enjoy drinking it either [if they do, Google doesn't know about it!].   Maybe they should take a cue from their peers in Taiwan [where baseball is the only professional sport].  Taiwanese  baseball players drink tea together in the locker room before every game!

If Detroit Tiger's owner, Mike Ilitch, happens to read this post, maybe he'll consider offering iced tea with his Little Caesar's pizza at the ballpark.  ;-)  What a home run hit that would be with tea lovers.   Just sayin'!

  2. Love this post. How wonderful to take your mom to the ballgame. My husband's 95 year old aunt is a basketball fan and she can quote scores and all kinds of details from watching on television. She doesn't miss a game. I think that is just wonderful!
