A Red Tartan Plaid Christmas Tea

In 2004, when I was an independent distributor for A Sandy Clough Tea, Sandy came out with a red tartan plaid teaset called "Merry Christmas."  It sets a beautiful table, and I love using it during the month of December.  Following are photos of a Christmas tea party that I hosted for two of my girlfriends.

I tied a teapot charm to the handle of the teacup as a favor for them to take home.

I made basic cream scones, and individual fruit and cheese "bouquets" in red ramekins.

"Zuppa Stracciatella" [Italian Egg-drop Soup]

2 cups chicken broth [homemade is best]
8 oz. frozen chopped spinach
1/3 cup acini di pepe [tiny pasta]
1 egg
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan Cheese
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon fresh black pepper

Cook spinach separately according to directions and drain.
Cook pasta separately according to directions and drain.
In a small bowl, lightly beat egg, cheese, basil, salt and pepper.
Heat broth to boiling and add egg mixture slowly, wisking to incorporate.
Add spinach and serve with croutons or a slice of crusty Italian garlic bread.

It'll soon be time to unpack these dishes for the 2012 holidays!

  1. Oh, I like the Italian eggdrop soup! My husband makes a very nice Asian eggdrop soup so I will have to convince him to try his hand at this instead :)

Loving the plaid. So wintry and Scottish and festive!

  3. The dishes are so pretty I would want to use them all winter long. What a lovely tea table they set. I just brought out my Christmas mugs and Longaberger Christmas plates. Isn't it a JOY to bring them out and enjoy for the season?

  9. How beautiful! I am about to put some new plaid dishes on my table, so this is giving me ideas. I think I fell in love with plaid back when Victoria magazine used to feature it so often years ago!
